STS-115 Atlantis resumes ISS construction

The Space Shuttle Atlantis carried into orbit the first new piece of the International Space Station since 2002. Launch finally occured on September 9 at 11:14:55am EDT after several delays due to weather (such as Hurricane Ernesto) and technical glitches. Atlantis brings the second set of enormous solar arrays to attach to the ISS.

In the second photo below, a rare event, as the ISS streaks over Atlantis on the launch pad the night before launch!
