Delta 4 launches GOES-P after sunset

A Delta 4 rocket, 21 stories tall and packing 1.1 million pounds of thrust, launched the GOES-P weather satellite for NASA & NOAA on March 4 at 6:57pm EST, 33 minutes after sunset. Above, a multiple-exposure captures the launch in time-lapse and the smoke trail lit by the afterglow of sunset at high altitude. The gap is the space between the pictures.
