Delta 4 continues in first post-shuttle year

With the shuttle permanently grounded, a Delta 4 rocket became the first launch of 2012 for the US January 19, taking WGS-4 into orbit on behalf of the US Air Force.

It is the first post-shuttle year.

Mars Science Laboratory is on its way!

The Atlas V rocket carrying NASA's huge, nuclear-powered Curiosity rover to the Red Planet took off on time at 10:02am EST November 26 from Complex 41, and sent it on its 352 million mile journey 42 minutes later.

Final (planned) Delta 2

October 28, 2011

Delta 2 - the last one currently planned - lifted off from Vandenberg AFB, California, with the NPP weather & climate satellite for NASA & NOAA October 28.

The spectacular launch took place in crystal clear skies following a beautiful sunset over the Pacific with the rocket.

After 33 years and 135 missions, America's Space Shuttle Program is over. Atlantis landed to end STS-135 at 5:57am EDT July 21, closing out this great chapter in American history. Go Atlantis!

STS-133: Discovery home for good

March 9, 2011

Shuttle Discovery returned to Earth for the last time March 9, landing back in Florida and closing out its 27 year career as the flagship orbiter.

Discovery will head for the Smithsonian in Washington next year, the first of three closing chapters in the shuttle's history.
