An Atlas 5 rocket soared through blue skies May 15 to launch the first GPS satellite on an Atlas in 28 years.
It is the first of two launches in eight days. A Delta 4 is set to launch May 23 at sunset.

Space Shuttle Endeavour took off for Los Angeles atop the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft September 19, for its new home at the California Science Center. It was the last time in history a shuttle would be airborne.

Shuttle Discovery departed Florida forever April 17, leaving at sunrise atop NASA's 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft bound for the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. It was a tearful goodbye for thousands who flocked to see it take off, and sweeter for the enormous crowds that welcomed the ship as it flew over the National Mall and famous monuments in the nation's capital.
