Back to STS-135 photos

Two days after launch, and with a little extra fanfare courtesy a tugboat water cannon,  the final pair of SRBs are towed into Port Canaveral by the United Space Alliance recovery ships Liberty Star and Freedom Star. Here, Liberty Star arrives with the first at Jetty Park and makes its way into the Canaveral lock system before heading up the Banana River to Kennedy Space Center. The segments that made up the final pair are likely to be refurbished and used on future test firings, or a shuttle-derived heavy lift rocket. The final pair of SRBs contained segments used on STS-1, the first shuttle mission in 1981, and 59 other missions. Reusable, they were!
