Discovery departs the Vehicle Assembly Building for what was to be the final time,** just after sunset on September 20 enroute to Pad 39A, 3.45 miles down the crawlerway. The crawler transporter, mobile launch platform and Discovery together stand as tall as a 24-story office building, but are dwarfed inside the 525-foot VAB, the world's fourth largest building by volume. (**Discovery wound up being returned to the VAB in late-December for repairs to its external tank, making this its penultimate rollout).
