This piece of foil was cut from the same blankets of mylar-type material used to insulate the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) 8-12 against the extreme temperatures they encountered in space. It is silver on one side and gold on the other. GOES satellites are the primary weather predicting spacecraft orbiting the Earth and transmit the data you see everyday in your weather forecast. The satellites also aid in hurricane predictions and solar space weather observation.
