Launch Complex 40 ~ Titan III and IV
Launch Complex 40 was built to support Titan launches beginning on June 18 1965 and was used until April 6, 2004 when the final Titan 4 to be launched from Cape Canaveral was sent on its way. The mobile launch tower, the main element seen above, is one of the largest movable structures in the world and stands close to 400 feet tall. Today, Complex 40 is dormant and may be used in the future to test NASA's Crew Exloration Vehicle launcher, a modified Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster with upper stage. In all, Launch Complex 40 was the starting point for 81 launches, all of the Titan family.
