Historic Launch Complex 36 pads A (above, 10:11am) & B (below, 9:59am) are imploded June 16, 2007, a little over two years after their last launch. Complex 36 saw 145 Atlas launches from 1962 to 2005. The twin-pad site, over 20 stories tall, launched the Lunar Surveyor missions to scout out Apollo landing sites; Mariner 9, the first spacecraft to orbit another planet, Mars; sent Pioneer 10 and 11 to become the first manmade objects to visit Jupiter and Saturn and then leave the solar system; and launched countless of other scientific, commercial and military satellites and probes into the ether over the years. The
final launch occured February 3rd 2005.
