Historic Launch Complex 13 is imploded August 6, 2005 due to concerns over safety hazards and corrosion in the salty air. The site, 18 stories tall, was host of 51 Atlas launches from 1962 - 1978, including five of NASA's Lunar Orbiter missions to scout the moon in preparation for Apollo. The site had been designated a National Historic Landmark in 1984, believed to be by accident.
